With a playoff win on the line, Coventry rose to the challenge on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Northwest Catholic Lions. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Dominic Deangelis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Deangelis was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Mather Spear was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Dustin Menzel, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Coventry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Coventry's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Northwest Catholic, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-11 record.
