The Clifton Central Comets on the road again on Friday and play against the Wilmington Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Clifton Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
Clifton Central struggled with assists on Saturday (La Salette Academy had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Clifton Central fell 53-40 to La Salette Academy. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Clifton Central has scored all season.
Aidan Podowicz put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored nine points along with five assists and three steals. Logan Fritz was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wilmington also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Manteno by a score of 55-46.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ryan Nelson, who scored 12 points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Rink, who scored 14 points.
Clifton Central has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-8 record this season. As for Wilmington, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Clifton Central have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wilmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Clifton Central came up short against Wilmington in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 54-47. Can Clifton Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
