Valley - South recap Nov. 7, 2012
Marshfield was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Logan. The Tigers came in at 18 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Marshfield took down the Rangers 41-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Riley Gebelein ran for 128 yards and caught one passes for 14 yards in the win.
Dennis Goettl's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Bo Howard threw for 144 and one touchdown and Ryan Trierweiler had 76 yards receiving. Tanner Dennis-Brown helped Marshfield's passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.
Mack Scheppler made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Tigers bested Logan. The 5-foot-9 defensive back grabbed one interception.
Oshkosh North's Nate Neveau and Phil Brechlin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Valley - South in both passing and receiving yards. Neveau has thrown for 1179 yards this season, while Brechlin, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 36 catches for 548 yards. Gebelein from Marshfield leads the league in rushing with 1190 yards.
The Tigers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 867 from 1,324. The advance stemmed from a 41-7 victory over Wally Gnewikow's team last week.
