Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Northwestern Trojans, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 42-41 to the Red Raiders. Northwestern's loss signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.
Northwestern's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Turbo Richard, who gained 119 total yards and three touchdowns, and Finley Polk who threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Polk has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played.
Greenville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mazeo "mj" bennett led the charge by rushing for 54 yards and three touchdowns. Kd Mosley was another key contributor, picking up 161 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Northwestern's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Greenville, the last time they lost on the road was back back in September. Having now won five straight away contests, they've pushed their record up to 10-3.
Northwestern does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Greenville will head out on the road to face off against Westside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Westside's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups.
