The Franklin Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Woodcreek Timberwolves at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It was a proper cat-fight when Franklin challenged Linden on Thursday. Franklin came out on top against Linden by a score of 11-8. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Franklin got a great performance from Leilani Garcia as she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Garcia has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Addison Meddings and Julissa Sandoval did most of the damage at the plate: Meddings went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple, while Sandoval went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That home run was Meddings' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamea Torres, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Franklin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Woodcreek, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They skirted past Granite Bay 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Timberwolves have posted against the Grizzlies since April 19, 2016.
Woodcreek saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Reddell, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base.
The victory got Woodcreek back to even at 1-1. As for Franklin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Franklin came up short against Woodcreek in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 9-5. Can Franklin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
