The Elk Grove Thundering Herd's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Laguna Creek on the road by a decisive 70-51 margin. While losing is never fun, Elk Grove can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 676th, while Laguna Creek is ranked 81st).
Despite the loss, Elk Grove had strong showings from Liam Acido, who scored 18 points, and Vinny Gonzales, who scored 12 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for Acido.
Elk Grove struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Elk Grove's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Laguna Creek, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Elk Grove will head out on the road to face off against Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oak Ridge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 404 points over their last six matches. Laguna Creek won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cosumnes Oaks at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th. Cosumnes Oaks is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
