The Athens Golden Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Decatur. If Athens was looking for revenge after losing 40-33 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Decatur found their leader in underclassman Jennifer Mitchell, who scored 19 points. Mitchell is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiah Jackson, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Athens' loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Decatur, their victory bumped their record up to 16-12.
Athens will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hartselle presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Golden Eagles in Alabama (the Tigers are ranked 20th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 233rd). Decatur will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th.
