Even though the Elizabeth Minutemen have not done well against the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Elizabeth walked away with a 47-40 victory over Scotch Plains-Fanwood. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Elizabeth.
Elizabeth got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alexandra Koon out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 21 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Koon has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jah'nae Lembrick, who scored 11 points along with six assists and five steals.
Elizabeth is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Scotch Plains-Fanwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-2.
Elizabeth will be playing at home against Oak Knoll at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Knoll will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Elizabeth is ranked 44th). As for Scotch Plains-Fanwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Hillsborough at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hillsborough will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
