The Ponderosa Bruins are taking a road trip to face off against the Pleasant Grove Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ponderosa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Ponderosa easily dispatched Rio Americano last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Bruins fell just short of Vista del Lago by a score of 3-1 last Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bruins have suffered against the Eagles since March 12, 2019.
Ponderosa got a good showing from Marissa Granade, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Granade has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ponderosa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kate McCartney, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pleasant Grove). They put the hurt on Cosumnes Oaks with a sharp 11-1 win on Wednesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Wolfpack recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Madeline Lawson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Shealynn Stinson was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Paredes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Ponderosa has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Pleasant Grove, their record is now 4-2.
Pleasant Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ponderosa hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. It's a different story for Pleasant Grove, though, as they've only averaged .253. Will they be able to contain Ponderosa's hitters?
Ponderosa couldn't quite get it done against Pleasant Grove when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 3-0. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
