The Lincoln Northeast Rockets have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were the victim of a rough 62-42 loss at the hands of Lincoln Southwest on Tuesday. Lincoln Northeast has not had much luck with the Silver Hawks recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Lincoln Northeast's loss came despite strong showings from Serena Heeren and Doneelah Washington. Heeren almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds, while Washington almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Washington is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Khadijah Phillips was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lincoln Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Southwest only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Kennadi Williams was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with seven steals and six assists for Lincoln Southwest. Williams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Dostal, who scored six points along with three steals.
Lincoln Northeast has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-5 record this season. As for Lincoln Southwest, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
Lincoln Northeast will take on the Storm at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Elkhorn South will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Rockets are ranked 32nd). As for Lincoln Southwest, they will head out on the road to take on the Griffins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Gretna East will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
