Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Lawrence Academy's Fifth in Last Six Outings

If Pungo Christian Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Lawrence Academy, they should've done a better job of containing Nike Wiggins. The Lawrence Academy Warriors took down the Pungo Christian Academy Raiders 68-50 on Wednesday thanks in part to Wiggins, who went 14 of 31 en route to 32 points and five boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Lawrence Academy's points.

Carter Hoggard was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in blocks (four).

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marshall Ricks, who went 8 for 20 on his way to 24 points and six boards. With that strong performance, Ricks is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Evan Woolard, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Lawrence Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points per game. As for Pungo Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Coincidentally, Lawrence Academy and Pungo Christian Academy will both be playing Ridgecroft the next time they take the court. Pungo Christian Academy will head out to face Ridgecroft at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Lawrence Academy will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
