D1 District 6 (8 Man) recap October 1, 2013
Niobrara/Verdigre added to the longest winning streak in D1 District 6 (8 Man) this week by beating Plainview, 56-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Cougars.
The Pirates lost to Niobrara/Verdigre 56-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Creighton's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Austin Diedrichsen threw for 73 and 2 touchdowns and Reid Liska had 108 yards receiving. On the ground Jacob Morill chipped in 161 yards.
The Bulldogs' dynamic duo of Diedrichsen and Liska proved tough for Elgin/Pope John to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Colton Boelter made the biggest impact on defense this week as Creighton topped the Wolfpack. The 5-foot-11 junior.
Mark Vondracek provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Doug Konopasek's team bested Plainview. He completed 5 passes for 53 yards and also ran for 122 yards. Vondracek's favorite target this week was Hayden Liska, who caught 5 passes for 34 yards.
Elgin/Pope John's Alex Pelster and Blake Schrage have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pelster has thrown for 502 yards this season, while Schrage has 14 catches for 205 yards. Cody Beckmann from Bloomfield leads the league in rushing with 730 yards.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Randy Eisenhauer's team's Schrage goes up against the Cougars' Steven LaPointe.
Next week's game between the Wolfpack and Niobrara/Verdigre will feature an aerial matchup as Pelster tests his arm against LaPointe's defensive ability.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Elgin/Pope John and the Cougars face off next week.
As it stands, the Bees are in third, while Jeff Jensen's team is in second.
The Bulldogs led D1 District 6 (8 Man) in scoring this week by notching 62 points on the Wolfpack. Morill ran for 161 yards during the win.
