This season hasn't been kind to the Antonito Trojans, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They suffered a tough 61-41 defeat at the hands of Creede on Saturday. Antonito has struggled against Creede recently, as their game on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Antonito lost, one person who can't be blamed is Destanaya Quintana. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Quintana is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Creede's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lila Fairchild, who dropped a triple-double on 35 points, ten rebounds, and 13 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fairchild has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jasmin Laing, who scored 13 points along with eight steals and five assists.
Antonito bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Creede, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Antonito and Centennial will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Centennial comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Creede, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lake City at 4:30 p.m. Lake City is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
