Ripley is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will host the Westview Chargers at 6:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Ripley: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Westview has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Ripley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Bolton with a sharp 17-6 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won six in a row.
Brock Kirkpatrick was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Kirkpatrick was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season.
In other batting news, Alex Caldwell and Jaykob Dewalt did most of the damage at the plate: Caldwell went 1-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Dewalt scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Dewalt a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was John MacLin, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Westview made easy work of Northside Methodist Academy on Wednesday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won seven games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Westview got a massive performance out of Graham Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. CD Damron was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Westview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northside Methodist Academy only posted a batting average of .176.
Ripley's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Westview, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
