Basketball Recap: Spring Valley Comes Up Short

Spring Valley lost against Ridge View back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Spring Valley Vikings fell to the Ridge View Blazers 77-73. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (55), the Vikings still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Spring Valley lost, don't look at Zie'L Ratchford. Despite the final result, she went 10 of 19 en route to 25 points. The matchup was Ratchford's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mariana Moody, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Anasia Harvey was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 16 rebounds for Ridge View. Harvey is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiya Carter, who went 8 of 11 on her way to 17 points along with five assists and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Spring Valley and nudges their season record down to 9-6. As for Ridge View, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-6.

Spring Valley and Ridge View should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings. Spring Valley (ranked 11th) will meet Westwood (ranked 90th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Spring Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.5 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Ridge View (ranked 39th) will meet West Florence (ranked 200th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
