The Saint Mary's Hall Barons will head out on the road to challenge the St. Joseph Academy Bloodhounds at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Saint Mary's Hall has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 770 points over their last 11 contests.
Even though San Antonio Christian scored an imposing 77 points on Friday, Saint Mary's Hall still came out on top. Saint Mary's Hall slipped by San Antonio Christian 78-77. The win was all the more spectacular given Saint Mary's Hall's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 670th, while San Antonio Christian is ranked 228th).
Roman Chase was his usual excellent self, scoring 42 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Rico Hernandez, who scored 18 points.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell to St. Anthony 81-75. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, St. Joseph Academy got a solid performance out of Lucas Cristiano, who scored 25 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Oscar Balli was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Saint Mary's Hall now has a winning record of 12-11. As for St. Joseph Academy, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Saint Mary's Hall hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 68.2 points per game. It's a different story for St. Joseph Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 55.3 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Saint Mary's Hall was dealt a bruising 79-38 loss at the hands of St. Joseph Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Saint Mary's Hall, Gerry Martinez (who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
