Basketball Recap: Emma Gibbs Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Southeastern Christian Academy

Cape Fear Academy's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 43-33 victory over the Southeastern Christian Academy Warriors. Given the Hurricanes' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Warriors are ranked 363rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cape Fear Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emma Gibbs out in front who posted 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those 18 points gave Gibbs a new career-high. Naomi Sharewise was another key player, putting up 14 points along with seven steals and five assists.

Cape Fear Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

Southeastern Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being My'Angel Evans, who put up 11 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryleigh St.George, who had six points.

Cape Fear Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. As for Southeastern Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.

Cape Fear Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-12 win against Wayne Country Day on the 7th. As for Southeastern Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 47-43 victory against Conway Christian on the 7th.
