Basketball Recap: St. Pauls Snaps 12-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If St. Pauls was riding high fresh off their 58-38 takedown of Red Springs last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The St. Pauls Bulldogs fell just short of the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes by a score of 54-51 on Friday. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Golden Tornadoes recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zakoreya Davis, who posted eight points along with 16 rebounds and three steals. Davis has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Monroe, who put up 13 points and six rebounds.

Taniya Simms continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fairmont, going 6 of 9 on her way to 22 points in addition to five assists and three blocks. Simms is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyric McNair, who earned 12 points along with eight boards and four steals.

St. Pauls' defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-3. As for Fairmont, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.

St. Pauls wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 50-45 victory against Lumberton on the 18th. Fairmont has also already played their next game, a 55-23 win against Hoke County on the 18th.
