Archbishop Wood is 0-4 against Central Bucks West since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Vikings will host the Bucks at 3:45 p.m. Archbishop Wood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Archbishop Wood made easy work of St. Hubert Catholic for Girls and carried off a 9-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with St. Hubert Catholic for Girls: they've now won five in a row.
The team relied heavily on Graciene Gale, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Maya McGrory, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Gale wasn't the only one making solid contact: Archbishop Wood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Central Bucks West was not the first on the board last Monday, but they got there more often. They had just enough and edged out Conwell-Egan Catholic 5-4.
Ana Glemser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Katherine James was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Sammy Hooven was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Archbishop Wood pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Central Bucks West, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Archbishop Wood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Central Bucks West struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
