The Erie Tigers lost against the Horizon Hawks back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Erie took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Horizon.
Despite the loss, Erie saw an underclassman step up: Christopher Smith scored 16 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Haan, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Leading Horizon to victory were Brady Greene and Alex Mccollum. Greene scored ten points along with nine rebounds, while Mccollum dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Mccollum scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Greene, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Erie now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Horizon, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Erie won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cheyenne Mountain at 12:00 p.m. on January 13th. Cheyenne Mountain will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Erie is ranked 121st). As for Horizon, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Brighton at 6:30 p.m. Brighton is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
