Hayesville had lost 15 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-13 to make it 16. They fell 11-8 to the Andrews Wildcats. The Yellowjackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 9-8.
Hayesville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Micalynn McClure, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another was Daylyn Murray, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Andrews' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-12. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Andrews' side, Lauren Cochran made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Cochran was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Chanteah Rattler and Kori Harrelson did most of the damage at the plate: Rattler went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Harrelson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Harrelson a new career-high. Kaiya Ellis was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.
Hayesville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-1 loss against Rosman on the 28th. As for Andrews, they have also already played their next game, a 10-0 defeat against Cherokee on the 28th.
