Beech Grove and Southport are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Beech Grove will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Beech Grove barely beat Speedway the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets put the hurt on the Sparkplugs with a sharp 17-7 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kyrah Pierle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pierle was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Addison Corn was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Harper Moore was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Beech Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Southport was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Columbus North. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Bull Dogs: they've now lost six in a row.
Emma Jordan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Southport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rachel Pfieffer, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Beech Grove has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Southport, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Southport's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Beech Grove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. It's a different story for Southport, though, as they've only averaged .332. Will they be able to contain Beech Grove's hitters?
Beech Grove was able to grind out a solid victory over Southport when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
