The Whitehall Zephyrs will square off against the Parkland Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Parkland will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Whitehall extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Zephyrs' pitchers stepped up to hand Louis E. Dieruff a 14-0 shutout. The Zephyrs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Nik Christman looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Tyler Sanders was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Donato Brigidi, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Whitehall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Parkland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Canaries.
Parkland also got a great performance from Sawyer Marsteller as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Marsteller has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ben Weninger was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Peyton Scherff was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Whitehall's record now sits at 10-4. As for Parkland, their record is now 11-2.
Whitehall might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Parkland in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Zephyrs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
