Clayton is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while South Garner is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Clayton Comets will be home for the holidays to greet the South Garner Titans at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Clayton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 198th, while South Garner is ranked 34th).
On Saturday, Clayton beat Cardinal Gibbons 63-54.
Justice Mitchell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Clayton's points. Jeremiah Henson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, South Garner ended up a good deal behind Garner on Friday and lost 66-51. South Garner has not had much luck with Garner recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Clayton's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for South Garner, their loss dropped their record down to 5-1.
Clayton came up short against South Garner in their previous meeting back in February, falling 79-73. Thankfully for Clayton, Maleke Green (who scored 27 points along with seven steals and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
