Section 8 Conference V recap October 8, 2013
Jericho was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in Section 8 Conference V. The Jayhawks vanquished Great Neck South 50-12 earlier in the week.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Roslyn beat Friends Academy 22-18. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Great Neck North's dynamic duo of Tyler Weiss and Yair Sarraf proved to be unstoppable against Port Washington, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Weiss threw for 67 yards and 1 touchdown and Sarraf had 30 yards receiving. Michael Torres helped Great Neck North's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 26 yards.
Torres was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Blazers fell to the Vikings. He pulled down 1 interception.
Tristan Etienne was a passing and rushing force as Long Island Lutheran beat St. Dominic.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Great Neck North's Brian Kahen and Justin Nasimi have proven to be a lethal combination. Kahen has thrown for 257 yards this season, while Nasimi has 9 catches for 101 yards. The Crusaders' Anthony McCoy leads the league in rushing yards with 249.
Two of the top teams in Section 8 Conference V will go toe-to-toe this week when Long Island Lutheran takes on the Quakers. Chris Reno's team's offense has racked up 56 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Friends Academy has allowed only 54 on the year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Port Washington takes on Jericho. The Vikings are currently in second, while Will Martinez's team is in third.
