The Liberty Chargers pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Haines City. Even though they lost, Liberty's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Liberty lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mike Thelusme, who scored 11 points along with six assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawrence Kelley, who scored 16 points.
Haines City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ixion Toro, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Deonte Fielder Jr was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Liberty dropped their record down to 6-16 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Haines City, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-16 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Lake Gibson at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Lake Gibson has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 279 points over their last four matches. As for Haines City, they will head out on the road to challenge Durant at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Durant is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season.
