After ten games on the road, Westwood Christian is heading back home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Pinecrest Prep Crocs at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Pinecrest Prep took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Westwood Christian, who comes in off a win.
Westwood Christian was handed a 34-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Booker T. Washington on Monday. Westwood Christian skirted past Booker T. Washington 79-76. The win was just what Westwood Christian needed coming off of a 88-54 defeat in their prior contest.
Ethan Taylor and Michael Vilmenay were among the main playmakers for Westwood Christian as the former dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds and the latter went 9 for 17 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 4 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vilmenay has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of William Nadaskay, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Pinecrest Prep suffered their biggest defeat since November 29, 2023 on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) on the road and fell 77-47. While losing is never fun, Pinecrest Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 638th, while Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) is ranked 238th).
Despite the defeat, Pinecrest Prep saw an underclassman step up: Gabriel Guzman went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 1 assist. Aaron Castellon was another key contributor, scoring three points along with two steals.
Westwood Christian's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Pinecrest Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a blowout: Westwood Christian hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 60.6 points per game. It's a different story for Pinecrest Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 46.2 points per game. The only thing between Westwood Christian and another offensive beatdown is Pinecrest Prep. Will they be able to keep them contained?
