There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Welcome
The MaxPreps rankings indicated that Northwestern would come out the decided victor last week, and the rankings were spot on. It took its contest against Jackson by a conclusive 34 - 10 score. The win took its toll on the QB, however, as he was sacked 13 times. Thanks to its success, Northwestern cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 25th spot.
Can't Touch This
Venice got a 44 - 13 win over Manatee last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Brandon Gregory. Gregory rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns. That performance landed Gregory among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The showdown between Chaminade-Madonna (12th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and University (29th) shaped up to be more of a takedown. Chaminade-Madonna put the hurt on University with a conclusive 35 - 0 victory. The win boosted Chaminade-Madonna a satisfying seven spots in the power rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
Vanguard has been an offensive powerhouse for seven straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. It finished its game with a 46 - 34 win. The Oakleaf defense has struggled this season (giving up an average of 37 points per game), and Vanguard took advantage of that. At 80 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
