Atascadero extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-16 in the process. They lost 16-1 to the Templeton Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent defeat being a 17-7 loss back in April.
Atascadero saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Devyn Dutra, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Melisilei Tonga also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As for Templeton, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
On Templeton's side, Bailey Fiorenza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Fiorenza has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Tegan Jay looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Templeton got a massive performance out of Aislyn Vogt, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Vogt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Marquart, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Atascadero didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 8-2 loss against San Luis Obispo on the 9th. As for Templeton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Orcutt Academy on the 8th.
