The Newark Charter School Patriots will take on the Sanford Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Newark Charter School comes in on three and Sanford on 11.
Newark Charter School's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against St. Elizabeth by a score of 3-0.
Newark Charter School's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tristan Tynan, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sanford got the win against Tower Hill on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-3. Considering the Warriors have won seven matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alex Gannon and Owen Ripple made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gannon didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Ripple struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At the plate, Gannon went 3-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI, while Ripple went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those triples were Gannon's first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on John Malloy, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cole Ruhland, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Sanford's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Newark Charter School, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Newark Charter School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sanford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Newark Charter School might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Sanford when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Patriots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
