Baseball Game Preview: Bunker Hill Bears vs. Maiden Blue Devils

The Bunker Hill Bears will square off against the Maiden Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Bunker Hill didn't have quite enough to beat East Burke and fell 4-3. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kamden Bortz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Bunker Hill is 4-1 when Bortz posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Maiden had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Trojans, sneaking past 4-2.

Collin Chappel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Brycen James was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Blake Lackey was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Maiden's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bunker Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bunker Hill has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Maiden struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
