The Sparta Spartans can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Luther 36-33. The victory was all the more spectacular given Sparta's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while Luther is ranked 133rd).
Sparta found their leader in underclassman Elexa Jones, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Lily Seifert was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Sparta's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Luther, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Sparta will stay at home for another game and welcome Black River Falls at 7:15 p.m. on December 21st. Black River Falls is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Luther, they will head out on the road to face off against Aquinas at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Aquinas is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
