La Grange is 9-1 against Smithville since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The La Grange Leopards will be home for the holidays to greet the Smithville Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
La Grange scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 69-22 win over El Campo. Given La Grange's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while El Campo is ranked 1406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
La Grange got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Landri Hernandez out in front who scored 21 points along with six steals. The game was Hernandez's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Campbell Cooper, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, Smithville strolled past Caldwell with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 49-30. The win made it back-to-back wins for Smithville.
La Grange has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Smithville, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Everything came up roses for La Grange against Smithville in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 69-27 win. Will La Grange repeat their success, or does Smithville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
