The Seventy-First Falcons's game on Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They came out on top against Pender by a score of 55-42. This was payback for Seventy-First, who suffered a 40-30 loss the last time these two teams met.
Seventy-First was led to victory by Mariyah Massey and Kariana Williams. Massey scored 14 points along with seven assists and three steals, while Williams scored 17 points along with seven steals. Massey continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jewel Gully, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Seventy-First's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Pender, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Seventy-First will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Westover at 12:00 p.m. on December 21st. Westover presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Seventy-First in North Carolina (Westover is ranked 88th, while Seventy-First is ranked 351st). Pender will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. South Columbus has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 20.
