If the Cape Fear Colts were feeling good off their 77-43 takedown of the Douglas Byrd Eagles last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cape Fear took a serious blow against Lumberton on Friday, falling 77-48. Cape Fear has not had much luck with Lumberton recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Damien Gary and Arrington Kee certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Gary scored 13 points along with three steals, while Kee scored 13 points. Rico McDonald was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
It was another big night for Jaiden Shephard, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 20 rebounds for Lumberton. Shephard is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Amare Jones, who dropped a double-double on 11 rebounds and ten assists.
Cape Fear's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Lumberton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Cape Fear will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Purnell Swett at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Purnell Swett focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Thursday. As for Lumberton, they will head out on the road to take on Jack Britt at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jack Britt will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
