Carl Albert is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Guthrie is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Carl Albert Titans will take on the Guthrie Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Carl Albert took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 49-7 win over Bishop McGuinness. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-0.
Carl Albert's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kevin Sperry, who threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Trystan Haynes, who picked up 183 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Guthrie got themselves on the board against Southeast on Thursday, but Southeast never followed suit. They blew past the Spartans 68-0 on the road. Given Guthrie's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Southeast is ranked 173rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Their wins bumped Carl Albert to 8-0 and Guthrie to 7-0.
Everything came up roses for Carl Albert against Guthrie in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 41-7 win. Will Carl Albert repeat their success, or does Guthrie have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
