The Trezevant Bears will face off against the Memphis East Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Trezevant has three straight victories, Memphis East has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Trezevant will bounce into Monday's game after beating KIPP Collegiate, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Bears had just enough and edged out the phoenix 7-5.
Zavion Evans was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Rickey Wright, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Trezevant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Memphis East came up short against Melrose on Thursday and fell 13-9.
Jaiden Woodus was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Nathaniel, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two RBI.
Trezevant's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Memphis East, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Trezevant has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .662. However, it's not like Memphis East struggles in that department as they've averaged .575. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Trezevant suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Memphis East when the teams last played back in March. Will the Bears have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
