Basketball Recap: Forest Park Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Nathanial Edmonds and Derrick Green

Forest Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a 65-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the M.L. King Lions. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

Derrick Green and Nathanial Edmonds certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Green dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards, while Edmonds almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Edmonds a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Nehemiah Atwater, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Forest Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

M.L. King got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emontae Gourdine out in front who had 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Everhart Iii, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 15 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Forest Park's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for M.L. King, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-11.

Forest Park will square off against Creekside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for M.L. King, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the M.L. King Lions face off against the Jackson Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. M.L. King is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.
