The Greendale Panthers will face off against the New Berlin West Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greendale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Greendale is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Wisconsin Lutheran just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 10-1 to the Vikings. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this game were averaging 2.81 runs allowed.
Greendale saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Martin, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple.
Waukesha North hit New Berlin West with a four-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northstars.
Chloe Wegehaupt was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Serena Klein was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
New Berlin West's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Greendale, their loss dropped their record down to 12-3-1.
New Berlin West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Greendale has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for New Berlin West, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Greendale's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Greendale got the 'W' in their previous meeting two weeks ago against New Berlin West by a conclusive 13-1 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
