After a string of three wins, the Bennett Tigers's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 54-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Middle Park. Bennett was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Middle Park apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Bennett lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lily Venneberg. Despite the final result, she scored 25 points. Jessica Venneberg was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Middle Park was led to victory by Lillie Raegner and Aubree Hanson. Raegner scored 13 points along with six rebounds, while Hanson scored 19 points along with six assists and two steals. Hanson hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Nance, who scored four points along with two steals.
Bennett's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-3. As for Middle Park, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Bennett's road trip will continue as they head out to face Jefferson at 6:30 p.m. on February 12th. Jefferson is coming into the contest with six straight victories at home, so Bennett is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Middle Park, they will head out on the road to face off against Moffat County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Moffat County is coming into the matchup with five straight losses at home, meaning Middle Park will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
