Softball Recap: Waverly Wins Going Away Against Lakewood

Waverly barely beat Lakewood the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warriors put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 14-1 win on Monday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Waverly let McKenna Bensinger and Daniela Anzaldua run wild. Bensinger went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Anzaldua got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four RBI gave Bensinger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Allison Londo, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Waverly pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Lakewood, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Looking ahead, Waverly is taking a road trip to face off against Eaton Rapids at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lakewood, they will host Lansing Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
