The Del Oro Sun lost against the South Spartans back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Del Oro took a serious blow against South, falling 63-31. While losing is never fun, Del Oro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1337th, while South is ranked 544th).
Despite the loss, Del Oro saw an underclassman step up: Josue Lopez-Perez scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Mark Villa, who scored six points.
Del Oro has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-22 record this season. As for South, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-11.
Del Oro will take on Golden Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Del Oro is facing Golden Valley at the right time seeing as Golden Valley is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for South, they will head out on the road to challenge North at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. South is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
