If the Clayton Clippers were feeling good off their 63-38 takedown of the Salem Rams last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Clayton took a 57-40 bruising from Sterling on Saturday. Clayton found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up nine fewer assists than your opponent.
When it comes to explaining why Clayton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rainelle Blocker. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Blocker is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Delaney, who scored ten points.
It was another big night for Erin Quinn, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds for Sterling. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quinn has scored all season. Ireland Kay was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Clayton now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Sterling, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clayton will take on Wildwood at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wildwood presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Clayton in New Jersey (Wildwood is ranked 61st, while Clayton is ranked 281st). As for Sterling, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glassboro at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
