It was a good run, but the Elmwood-Murdock Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Sacred Heart by a score of 42-40. Elmwood-Murdock lost against Sacred Heart in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 40-31 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Elmwood-Murdock saw an underclassman step up: Brooke Goudie dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney "laney" Frahm, who scored eight points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Elmwood-Murdock were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Elmwood-Murdock's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-1. As for Sacred Heart, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
Elmwood-Murdock will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Elmwood-Murdock is ranked 14th). Sacred Heart will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bruning-Davenport/Shickley on January 2, 2024. Bruning-Davenport/Shickley is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
