The Peyton Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Colorado Springs Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Peyton blew past Rocky Ford, posting a 45-7 victory at home.
Noah Martin went supernova for Peyton, throwing for 282 yards and five touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Martin really tore up the turf during one magnificent 81-yard run. Another player making a difference was Brian Keairnes, who picked up 95 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Colorado Springs Christian put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They really took it to Ellicott for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-12 victory at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-6.
Will Moore was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Daniel Hoggard made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Another reason for the win was Colorado Springs Christian's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Michael Olas and his 2.5 sacks.
Their wins bumped Peyton to 4-4 and Colorado Springs Christian to 6-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Peyton has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 161.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Colorado Springs Christian struggles in that department as they've been even better at 197.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Peyton took a serious blow against Colorado Springs Christian when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 53-8. Can Peyton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
