Central Sequoia recap November 5, 2013
Central Valley Christian scaled the state rankings by moving to 273 from 302 this week, the biggest jump in Central Sequoia. The Cavaliers were able to move up by defeating Selma 43-14.
The Bears lost to Central Valley Christian 43-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. John Moreno threw for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss.
Mike Crews' team's dynamic duo of Moreno and Nick Garcia proved tough for Mason Hughes' team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Carl Gonzales helped Selma's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 28 yards.
Matt Valle made the biggest impact on defense this week as Exeter lost to Kingsburg. The 6-foot-2 senior grabbed 1 sack.
Brandon Steele was a passing and rushing force as the Vikings defeated the Monarchs. He completed 9 passes for 140 yards and also ran for 73 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Marcus McMaryion and Michael Wright, Dinuba has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. McMaryion is tops in the league in passing with 1,809 yards, while Wright has rushed for 1,474 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Exeter's Alex Cortez, with 549 yards on 29 catches.
The Emperors' McMaryion is within 191 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Ben White's team.
Next week's game between Dinuba and the Monarchs will feature an aerial matchup as McMaryion tests his arm against Joey Tobias's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Kevin Scharton's team takes on Exeter. The Emperors are currently in second, while the Monarchs are in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Bears take on Kingsburg. Selma has allowed 209 points this season, while Dave Steele's team has given up 148. The Bears allowed 43 points last week as they lost to the Cavaliers.
Central Valley Christian led the league in scoring this week after putting up 43 points on Selma. Macintyre Garbani ran for 124 yards in the win.
