St. Dominic hasn't had much luck against Buckfield recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Saints are taking a road trip to take on the Bucks at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in St. Dominic's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last seven matches.
On Thursday, St. Dominic didn't have quite enough to beat Fryeburg and fell 13-12.
Piper Croteau was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Ella Doucette also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Buckfield came tearing into Wednesday's contest with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Wolverines get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. Give the Bucks' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Carmen Crockett and Sophie St.Pierre made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Crockett tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, St.Pierre pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At bat, Crockett went 2-for-4 with four RBI, while St.Pierre went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. St.Pierre is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, Buckfield got a massive performance out of Cora Brewster, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Hill, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Buckfield's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Dominic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
Both St. Dominic and Buckfield just can't seem to miss. The Saints have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Buckfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 1.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Dominic might still be hurting after the 15-1 defeat they got from Buckfield in their previous meeting back in June of 2024. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
