The KIPP SF College Prep Phoenix kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a serious blow against Union Mine, falling 92-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Union Mine was led to victory by Isaac Zmerzlikar and Nate Sweet. Zmerzlikar dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Sweet dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sweet has scored at least 25% of Union Mine's points. Another player making a difference was Hayden Otte, who scored 15 points.
KIPP SF College Prep's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Union Mine, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
KIPP SF College Prep will face off against Casa Roble at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Casa Roble's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Union Mine, they will take on Roseville at TBD on Friday. Hopefully Roseville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Thursday.
