The New Oxford Colonials will face off against the Susquehannock Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. New Oxford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
New Oxford is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since April 2nd on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Eastern York, sneaking past 4-3. The Colonials haven't had any issues with the Golden Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
New Oxford saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Haifley, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Haifley is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Ayden Tracey also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Susquehannock fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Bermudian Springs on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Andrew Unglesbee was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Susquehannock's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Unglesbee was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Rafi Hernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Grayson Copenhaver, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
New Oxford pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Susquehannock, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. New Oxford has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Susquehannock struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
New Oxford beat Susquehannock 8-3 in their previous meeting on April 9th. Will the Colonials repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
