4A Region 1 recap October 22, 2013
Corinth extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 1 this week by beating Itawamba Agricultural, 20-9. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Amory and Shannon played the most contested game in the league this week, with Amory eventually emerging with a 7-3 victory. TJ Fields ran for 130 yards during the win.
Tishomingo County's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Blake Hawkins threw for 104 and 1 touchdown and Brannon Gamble had 57 yards receiving. On the ground T.J. Lambert contributed 156 yards. Lambert helped Tishomingo County's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 43 yards.
Lambert was a passing and rushing force as the Braves fell to Pontotoc. Lambert's key target this week was Gamble, who caught 5 passes for 57 yards.
Hawkins put up the best numbers through the air as Tishomingo County lost to the Warriors.
Tishomingo County's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Braves feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Hawkins has thrown for 1,330 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Gamble has 27 catches for 573 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Corinth takes on the Red Raiders. At the moment, Doug Jones' team is in first, while Shannon is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Warriors take on darryl carter's team. Corinth has allowed 125 points this season, while the Red Raiders have given up 151. The Warriors allowed 9 points last week as they beat the Indians.
Lanny Jones' team fell to Pontotoc 35-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lambert was a bright spot for the Braves, as he ran for 156 yards and caught 4 passes for 43 yards in the defeat.
